Stadium Petition Update

Posted in: Marlborough Mesa
LaRue Gates from the Riverside Park neighborhood and founder of SASS (Stand Against the Stadium Site) called me for two reasons. First, to thank all the Marlborough Mesa folks who have voiced support for her neighborhood and have offered to help. SASS has a website now at www.sass1az.org
Second, she wanted everyone to know that they will be kicking off their petition drive tomorrow night at a neighborhood meeting at 7:00 pm at the Wittier School located on 8st and Longmore. As you may have heard, her group is not the only one trying to put this on the ballot. There is also a group called the Valley Business Owners and Concerned Citizens who will be running their own initiative drive. Though both groups are apparently seeking the same goal, I will be signing SASS's petition because the way LaRue and her neighbors have been able to rally to save their neighborhood and have the media, city council, the Cardinals and the TSA take notice is incredible. Just goes to show that neighbors that stick together can make a difference!

NOTE!

You should not sign more than one petition, if you do I was told your signature will be thrown out.

Two sides to every issue

Let's not forget that the Rio Salado plan was wrong for Mesa because the financial burden via taxes was all on Mesa. This plan costs Mesa nothing and brings in money via city taxes collected. And you cannot put a dollar amount on the extra nationwide exposure this state-of-the-art facility will bring to the city of Mesa. This is the 43rd largest city in the US. It's time we acted like it.

The only reason to be against this stadium is the complaining people that live near the LARGE undeveloped acreage of land which they assumed would never be developed. Poor assumption on their part.

This is progress for the city of Mesa and we should look forward to the day they break ground on a wonderful new addition to our city.
