On Saturday night around 7:20 pm, a driver in a white truck nearly slammed into my wife and I on Emerson.
The driver had been stopped talking with someone near the intersection of Plata and Mollera, and began following behind our truck as we drove East on Plata. We stopped at the stop sign, signalled and turned left onto Emerson, heading North. We live on the West side of the street so I turned my signal on and was about to turn into our driveway when I noticed how fast the truck behind us was gaining on us (another reason we NEED speed bumps on our street/straightaway). He was several car-lengths back but was speeding toward us. I told my wife to be prepared if I had to hit the brakes.
As soon as I began to turn into our driveway...the white truck hit the gas and tried to pass us on the left. If I had not slammed on the brakes he would have hit us. He hit his brakes too, but as soon as we stopped...he gunned it again and went on toward Guadalupe.
I flashed my lights at him and pulled up behind him at the stop sign...which is how I got his plate number (491 KAD).
I couldn't believe that this person who almost slammed into us by their illegal driving was just going to take off like nothing happened. If you're going to drive a truck...at least have some cajones when you drive like an idiot. It would have taken all of 2 seconds to stop, roll down the window and apologize. Instead the truck pulled out onto Guadalupe and proceeded to do about 65-70 in order to get away from our street as soon as possible.
I do not know if the person was just a STUPID driver or was up to no good. I believe they actually live near Plata and Mollera, but have yet to confirm that.
This is not a new problem. We have to make sure nearly every time that the person behind us is not going to pass us whether we are making a right turn or a left turn into our driveway.
