Upcoming ELECTIONS

Posted in: Marlborough Mesa
As most residents are already aware, Dennis Kavanaugh (our Councilperson of District 3) has always supported us here in Marlborough Mesa with ALL the accomplishments and projects we have attained and the ongoing events we continue to have.

In an effort to maintain as much neutrality as possible, I mostly have ''steered-clear'' of politics.

However, this message concerns YOU - the RESIDENTS of District 3 and YOUR RIGHT to CHOOSE who you would like representing you.

Councilman Kavanaugh has ask for OUR help in keeping him on the ballot by WRITING A NOTE or LETTER to the TRIBUNE and REPUBLIC before Jan. 6th. Here is his message:

''I hope some folks from Marlborough Mesa can write letters to the Trib and Republic indicating a desire that District 3 voters prefer the opportunity to choose their councilmember rather than having a lawsuit to knock me off the ballot. Thanks!''

Here is one example of a letter already written. You may glean from it anything you choose. Even a ONE SENTENCE letter would do just fine.

Dear Mr. Rice:

Last week you reported that Mr. T. Rawles, candidate for Mesa Councilmember for District Three has filed a suit that challenges Mr. D. Kavanaugh's eligibility to be a candidate for that office. The issue is whether or not Mr. Kavanaugh's prior service as a Councilmember invalidates his candidacy.

Mr. Kavanaugh raised the eligibility question with the Mesa City attorney and other legal authorities prior to taking action to run for this office. He was advised that he is eligible to run. Proper steps were taken early on by Mr. Kavanaugh to ensure his candidacy is valid.

Instead of raising doubts let's look at the records to determine what these candidates have contributed to Mesa and District Three. Let the voters examine the accomplishments of both of these candidates and decide who should represent us for the next four years. I am confident that the accomplishments of Mr. Kavanaugh will be readily apparent to the voters.

Upcoming ELECTIONS

As a Resident of Marlborough Mesa, I too, try very hard to ''steered-clear'' of politics. However in Mr. Kavanaugh's case and my right to choose, I'm making an exception to express my feeling on this matter.

As we all know by now, a Judge has ruled that his run for another four-year term would violate term limit laws.I'm very surprise Mr. Kavanaugh did not know this, he being an Attorney.

As I understand it, the district system's charter states term limits apply to ''office of council member,'' not ''district''. Clearly, the Judge read this before making his ruling.
