My truck was broken into Friday night, Dec. 12, 2008 in the 900 block of Portobello. They took all of my tools and equipment from the back seat.

Sorry to hear of your theft.  Sometimes thefts from vehicles are "crimes of opportunity" and with the economy in such despair, I can only anticipate that criminal activity will increase.       

I just wanted to alert people in our neighborhood that criminals are also stealing catalytic converters from vehicles to sell to salvage yards for cash.  Toyota and Nissan vehicles are most likely targets.  We know a young man who works near Baseline Rd. and Dobson Rd. who had his converter sawed off the vehicle (a Toyota) during daytime business hours.  This occurred in a busy parking lot in broad daylight and the vehicle has a car alarm. This is less than three miles from our homes...so we aware. 

So, when possible, park vehicles in the garage, add additional lighting to driveways if you park your vehicle outdoors, eliminate foliage that might provide hiding places for thieves (and keep it maintained), install a vehicle alarm, and lets band together and keep a look out for one another.  Lastly, call the police and report criminal activity.
