We have an update to "all parents please read" about the man who approached and hugged my daughter at our neighborhood park. Yesterday my daughter saw him at the park again while on her way home on the school bus. Mesa PD was notified. They came out and detained this man. Three children identified him as being the same man from the previous incident. He was drinking beer at the park this time. We have since learned that he has called out to at least one other girl, saying "Come here babe." We have also learned that this man, who identifies himself to children as "Bobby," has had prior complaints at other parks for this same type of behavior. His name is actually Humberto. He is a homeless man who sleeps behind various businesses near our neighborhood. He was issued a citation stating that he is no longer allowed in our park. If he does return he will be arrested. This does not mean, of course, that he will not return. Mesa PD informed us that hugging my daughter falls into the category of "unwanted touch," which is only a class C misdemeanor and will not keep this predator off the street. I urge you to be careful with your babies and to call Mesa PD immediately if you see him or know that he is in our park. If he does return, the police would like to observe him from a distance and detain or arrest him for anything unlawful.
