I-10 CONSTRUCTION ON GILA RIVER BRIDGES EXPECT DELAYS The bridges on Interstate 10 at the Gila River crossing (milepost 173) are scheduled for rehabilitation from May 2 through mid-July 2010. The bridges are completely safe for traffic flow, but the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) continually monitors bridges across the state and has determined that these bridges, built in the 1960s, need deck maintenance. The project will result in nightly single-lane closures and traffic delays.

Lane Closure Schedule - May 2 through mid-July 2010

Sunday to Friday morning

One lane of I-10 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.

Saturday

One lane of I-10 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

NOTE: No oversize load permits will be issued for this section of I-10 during the construction period. Semi trucks and recreational vehicles do not require oversize load permits and will be allowed through the construction zone, which is between mileposts 173.12 and 173.38.

General Information

The speed limit on I-10 in the project area will be reduced to 45 mph during construction hours and to 55 mph during non-construction hours. Motorists are encouraged to monitor the portable, changeable message signs that will be stationed in advance of the work zone and the overhead variable message sign on I-10 for daily information.

Enforcement officers and flaggers will be present at the site during construction work.

While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned freeway restrictions, during any complex construction project, there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Please visit our Gila River Bridge Web site for the most current information about planned and ongoing I-10 restrictions at this location.

Drivers should anticipate delays and allow extra time, or adjust travel to avoid closures and restrictions. ADOT appreciates your patience as we construct improvements on I-10.
