Toy Drive

Posted in: Marlborough Mesa

Start thinking about the toy drive for this year.  This will be a celebration of 10 years of giving and we want everyone to come and enjoy the food and fun.  Walgreen's is sponsoring us this year and will be there with a pharmacist to do blood pressure and cholesteral checks, as well as give you a one on one converesation about your medications. We are supporting 2 great charities this year:  (1) Save the Family will receive any toy donations; and (2) Helen's Hope Chest will receive any socks, shoes, boy's pants or hygiene item donations.  Dennis Kavanaugh, our City Council Member, will be available to answer any questions you may have about what the City is doing. Also, many city departments will be there with information that you may be interested in. Departments that have already accepted are:  Solid Waste, Code Compliance, Parks and Recreation, Housing Services, Library, and the Historical Society.  For those who want to do some CHRISTMAS SHOPPING, there will be residents with their various wares to check off your list some gifts for your loved ones.

Just wanted to add.... my mom's group did a Baby Shower for Save the Family a few weeks ago. I was not familiar with them before that, and what a great organization!

Alma, for our baby shower they collected new wrapped toys and gently used toys (kept separate.) Do you know if they would like gently used at this event as well, or would they prefer only new?

Do you know if the neighbor who does scrapbooking/ paper crafting will be at this event?

Thank you!

Dale

Sandra, I am sorry, that question was supposed to be directed at you and not Alma!

Dale

Dear Dale:

Thank you so much for that information on Save the Family.  Since most people know Alma more than anyone else in the neighborhood, I understand the confusion.  We are so blessed to have her and her husband, Jim, in our neighborhood.

While I will have to check on whether gently used items could be donated to Save the Family, I know that Helen's Hope Chest could use them.  If we are giving toys for Christmas presents, then they should be brand new.  Also, any socks, underwear, hygiene items, and other items like diapers, baby wipes, etc. need to be brand new for safety reasons.  However, any of the other donations like clothing, bikes, Big Wheels, etc. are just fine if they are gently used.

Hope this helps.
