Open Garage Doors

Posted in: Marlborough Mesa

On 3-20-11 I received a call from a neighbor on Pecos ... suspicious activity.

There were 3 male occupants - black males - taking pictures of OPEN garage doors. They drove by about 5 times! Our residents (2 homes) were astute enough to get details which are:

Grey Honda - late model, w/severe rear end damage.  It had a California plate #6BQ1980.  The police were called but there was no crime committed so there was little they could do.

On the same note:

Our Crime Prevention Officer, Jerry Quarles, sent me the following message on 3-28-11:

"I drove the Marlborough Mesa neighborhood today, March 28 at 3:00 pm and observed 15 open garage doors with no one around. I waited for a few minutes to see if anyone came out. (just enough time to take many things I observed in the garages, if I was a criminal looking for an opportunity!)

In addition, there were 4 unsecured vehicles (windows were down).

I also observed 20 vehicles parked on the roadway facing against traffic, which is a parking violation.

I may suggest you post something on your website or send out e-mails to remind residents to keep their garage doors closed and vehicles secure as to not become a victim of opportunity crime."

I wonder if these 3 men were also pretending to sell windshield repairs. On Monday afternoon 3/28,  I had just gotten home and had not closed my garage door, when a young man came to my door (ignoring my no soliciting sign).  I had been expecting another guest, so I opened the door without thinking to look through the peephole.  He said he noticed my windshield need repair.  When I questioned how he knew that because the car was pulled into the garage he said he could see it through the back windshield.  I turned him away and then he asked me for some water. Very suspicious to me.   I closed the door and closed my garage. As he walked away he was calling to another person down the street.
