Waste Water Line For County Islands – Have You Read About This and What You May Be Paying?

I’m currently employed by the City of Tempe Water division and I do have some knowledge about how municipalities use the majority of the rate payers with subsidizing minority group’s special interest / services.  I have always had a
distaste for this as it is not fair to rate payers across the board to fund others for services that they should be paying for and others do not receive.

I don’t suggest that I know all the facts in this situation, but from what I hear and read, rate payers in Mesa will be funding the project to supply waste water connections for approximately 50k people in the county islands because they may or may not have faulty septic systems.   The amount for developmental fees that is suggested these homeowners pay is ridiculous.  The amount that I have heard for this project is 100 million and will be on the backs of others to provide a benefit for the few.  The few who chose to live in the county to avoid the costs associated with city services from the start and the few whose responsibility is to maintain and service their own septic systems. This burden is theirs and theirs alone.

I hear that the septic systems may danger the aquifer that supplies various wells for the city for distribution to the system.  This burden is shared by the homeowner,
county, state and possibly the EPA.  If Motorola or Intel contaminate an aquifer, EPA, State and county are on the spot and sue, remediate, and handle the clean- up.  The aquifer does not belong exclusively to Mesa, but Mesa does have interests in the water rights / allotments from the aquifer. The aquifer is a multi-agency concern and should be handled by multiple agencies including SRP.

This tax payer does not support the decision for Mesa to expend my tax dollars and increase my rates to subsidize the few people who will be paying pennies on the dollar for this service.  I plan on emailing all the residents in the Marlborough
Mesa area to also get on board with this injustice to rate payers.
