Good Afternoon,
Please read below for the article on the arrests from the tire vandalism...
MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
Police detained two men early Wednesday morning in connection with a rash of slashed tires at a Mesa apartment complex.
A woman called police about 4:30 a.m. to tell them she saw someone slashing the tires on her car in the complex parking lot near Alma School Road and just south of U.S. Highway 60.
An officer arrived within about 30 seconds and within a few minutes saw one of the suspects who began to run, said Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato. More officers arrived and found the second suspect about 10 minutes later, Landato said.
The men were identified only as a 30-year-old man and a man in his early 20s, Landato said.
Both men were detained and officers said they initially saw four to six cars with slashed tires, Landato said.
They eventually found 17 cars that had been damaged and were still looking for more, Landato said, who added it was "senseless destruction."
Mesa police had also received reports of slashed tires just east of the complex on two other occasions. On Veterans Day tires on about 15 vehicles were slashed, and tires on 17 more on Thanksgiving Day, Landato said.
He said officers recovered a folding knife with a 6- to 7-inch blade believed to have been thrown by one of the suspects Wednesday morning.
