Solar City?

I've seen Solar City in the neighborhood a few times and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them. I know a few homes have their solar pannels as well... for those of you who have them, how are they working out? For those of you who just look at them, does the appearance bother you?

I think I'd quite like to give them a shot, but I'd like to hear what everyone thinks of them so far. Thanks!

Hello,

We are at 3103 Wycliff and just had our panels installed by Solar City.  They are not turned on yet as we are finishing up the permitting process but should be up and running in about 3-4 weeks.  So far the service and experience has been great.  They are very professional, always call prior to arrival, and even called to let me know they would be late one day.

I dont have any details on cost savings yet, but I am anticipating about $150/month savings on my elec. bill (we have an ANCIENT A/C unit).  If you're interested in learning more I can give you our SC rep's name.

Thanks,
Chris

Although there's someone else on my street (Posada) who had it done about a year ago, you might be the one who inspired my question since I just saw them out. :) Thanks for your response.

Holy cow. I had heard that it pretty much eliminated the electric bill. I'd be interested to know how the costs work out long-term, whether it winds up being a wash, costing more, or less, when the payments to Solar City are worked in.

Are lifestyle changes required or beneficial to getting the most out of it?

More than anything, I'd love to hear how it works out once it's up and running. I'd like to hear from a couple people who are using it before I talk to a rep, but I'd appreciate your rep's info for future use if you have it handy. I'm glad it's working out for you so far. Thanks!

Hi Jen,

Sorry for the late reply.  We just got the solar panels turned on in October and so far they are working great!  Installation was SUPER easy and only required us to fill out some forms (completely electronically) and email them back to SRP/Solar City.  Installation was quick and the crew did a great job cleaning up - only had to pick up a few scraps of misc stuff but thats to be expected after a job this big.  Each month (oct and nov) we produced about 1200 kw of electricity.  However since I was on the annual budget plan with SRP I haven't seen any savings because they make me pay the same amount every month.  I just called to get back on the "month to month" plan so i'll let you know how the $$ work out in Dec.

All in all, fantastic experience.

Best,
Chris
