Maunawili Valley Neighborhood Park
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Linda Ure, Secretary
Present: Jim Corcoran, Clifton Gadsden, Rose Faria, Veronica & Shane (Boys’ Home), Linda Ure
Minutes were accepted as circulated for July 2, 2002
Treasurers Report: Currentl account balance is $3, 791.61, including reserve accounts. Deposited today were the family dues of 105 or 107 households for $1,085.00.
The Agenda was taken out of order
Boys Home: Shane provided an email address
Meet your neighbors in the Park went very well. 40 to 60 persons attended, children, grandparents and residents, new and old. The Boys’ Home also attended and a good time was had by all. The food was plentiful. Thanks to all Maunawili residents for your participation.
Representative Pendleton: Report form Clifton Gadsden of Rep Pendleton’s office. 1) It was reminded that the CTAP program will be run for Maunawili Elementary School. 2) Three schools in Kailua: Kailua Elementary, Kailua Intermediate and Keolu Elementary are all in need of educational improvement. Not so is the Pohala Elementary. Key elements are the loss of monies due to lower enrollment affecting the programs. While there has been an 8% decease I students, the need for English as a Second Language has increased to 42%.
David Laeha arrived at 7:45 p.m. and conducted the meeting as acting vice president. 1) David made note that the Kawainui Vista, a residential area of 15 families, has formed a community association. 2) It is of concern in Maunawili just how much property tax is generated by Maunawili versus how much is returned to Maunawili in the roads, services, parks etc. 3) It is of concern that in our “country” area it is difficult to determining which government agencies are responsible for such items as painting (of bridges on Auloa Road, Backboards at the Park or the shed at adjacent Luana Hills property).
Clifton Gadsden will assist the community in determining how to negotiate the government agencies as may be concerned in having a US Postal Outgoing Mail box place in the community due to all the mail thefts.
Gasdsen and Faria left at 8:00 p.m.
Jim Corcoran reported 1) there will be a Public Hearing on the Wainanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill and Kapaa quarry as a future Sanitary Landfill and will attend the Public Hearing on August 7 with Secretary Linda Ure. 2) A history of KBAC was discussed in relation to formation over sewage spills and the need to improve water quality of the Windward side. 3) Jim Corcoran reported that he and Secretary Linda Ure will attend the Na Ala Hele (DLNR) meeting on August 13 as an item for discussion will be Old Government Road in Maunawili and the Lunan Hills Property. 4) Jim Corcoran reported that he and Secretary Linda Ure will attend the OSIC meeting on August 14 to discuss Coqui Frogs.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
