BWS Water Main Project - Update: Board of Water Supply is not active at this time on upgrading the water mains and fire hydrants on Maunawili Road and Maunawili Loop. The revised start date will be looked into by the Community Association for the residents.
Municipal Landfill at Kapaa Quarry - Update: The City Department of Environmental Services, Director Tim Steinberger, spoke for Mayor Harris, Representative Cynthia Thielen spoke with Mr. Doyle and he stated the City is evaluating Kapaa Quarry Phase I as a landfill site and it is being picked up on inventory. It is cautioned that the Kawainui Marsh is impacted by any addition of a landfill site and Kawainui Heritage Foundation, Hawaii Thousand Friends, and the Kailua Neighborhood Board are actively following these developments. An Environmental Committee meeting is being held by the Kailua Neighborhood Board on February 19, 2002 . Motion that the Maunawili Community Association opposes landfill expansion at Kapaa Quarry. The motion carried unanimously.
New Parking Spaces at Maunawili Park - Update: It is suggested that a speed bump be added between the old parking lot and the new parking lot as drivers gain too much speed before exiting the park.
Treasurers Report: Balance of accounts as of January 31, 2002 is $ 3,998.32. 195 Families have paid dues and/or donations this past year. Donations received for all funds has been $1,477.25. Budget items are funded from the general fund for $ 2,521.07 [last year this amount was $1,913.95] and this will include the reserve funds for reprinting bumper stickers. Expenditures for community events during the past year were: Halloween $112.00; July Community Pot Luck $ 170.49; Annual Meeting $ 18.35. The MUSE publication is within budget for printing and postage.
Update on CIP List for Maunawili Valley: The Maunawili Community Neighborhood Park is scheduled to have an addition of a mini skate board park similar to the one recently placed at Kailua District Park. It is requested for our youth that a 1/4 pipe form be added to the Maunawili Community Neighborhood Park and the MCA will continue to work on this with the Kailua Neighborhood Board for the CIP projects for 2003-2004.
Wetland in a Box: It was announced that Wetland in a Box has run into financial difficulties since September 11, 2001 and is not to be moved to the Maunawili Pump Station at this time.
Pavilion Update: As the lights in the pavilion continue to go out regularly, it is suggested the City Parks and Recreation personnel place wire guards over the lights for protection against breakage. The Men's Restroom has a broken pipe and the flusher and the urinal are inoperable.
The Women's Room has a new leak near the toilet. The door of the second stall is locked and needs to be opened.
MUSE: Weinberg/HRT is invited into membership with the Community Association. Once dues are paid ($10.00 per annum) the entity will have 1 membership, 1 vote, and may place an ad in the Muse for the restaurant at the clubhouse. It is anticipated this ad will be larger than the usual business card and the cost will be commensurate to size.
New New Business: Auloa Road (A.K.A. Luana Hills Road) has new parking spaces formed with asphalt near the pump station. It needs to be determined if this is Luana Hills property, the City Pump Station property, or parking for hikers to Olomana Ridge.
There being no further business, the meeting was Adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
