Mayfair in Tampa Palms

May 23 Neigborhood Watch Meeting

May 24, 2006

Last night's Neighborhood Watch meeting let us know that we are not the only ones experiencing these types of vandalism, auto burglary and bicycle theft. However, that does not to the change the fact our sense of security in our own subdivision has been shaken and we need to continue to take action. Officer LaRose tried to comfort us with the fact that these things usually in cycles. The best thing we can do is to keep a watchful eye out and report ANYTHING. This keeps the officers checking our subdivision our regular basis. We have to do our part and give the police a hand in reporting crime no matter how small the crime is. Even though Alexandria?’s bike was reported and found I found out at the meeting another bike was stolen and was not reported by the resident. I wonder how much theft and vandalism goes unreported giving people a false sense of security. Bottom line: e-mail, call, talk, check the Web site and watch to see what's going on.

The talk of a gate for Mayfair was discussed with Officer LaRose he is of the opinion that a gate will not make much of the difference. The crimes that we are experiencing are crimes of opportunity. However, I did let the resident?’s know that Jay said," I have Susan once again looking into gate prices, road maintenance, etc. I'll keep you informed. Everyone in the community really needs to keep their eyes and ears open and be aware of their surroundings."

There were a few other things mentioned such as: When is the next Mayfair party, do people need permission for backyard lighting, will the new road by the school affect us and when will it be built, etc. but these are Mayfair board issues so I suggested that people get in touch with Jay Friedberg.

I called the club this morning and setup the remainder of the Neighborhood Watch meetings for the year the dates are: Tuesday July 18 -- Tuesday September 19 -- Tuesday October 17.

In closing I would like to say that I was disappointed in the turnout however I have been getting calls from people asking what was discussed. I will tell you that after the meeting Officer LaRose said that since he has been at the last three Neighborhood Watch meetings he has decided he's going to be checking in on Mayfair and gave me his personal e-mail address should we have questions. The only thing he asked in return is an invitation to our next Mayfair party!! I think we can arrange that!
