We the People?…


It?’s that time again. The time when less than half of the people in the country eligible to vote will elect those who will ?“be in charge?”. It?’s difficult to understand why more of us don?’t take advantage of this right. Apathy no doubt.

The time has come to get concerned. Many of those who vote do so to benefit from the government, while tax paying non-voters stare in disbelief at the increasing amount of deductions on their paychecks and requests for donations from every agency in government. It is time to figure it out.

The local election this year for Mayor and Commission Members will be important. These decisions will directly affect how Oregon City will develop. There is much discussion on dwindling City budget, the expansion of the Urban Growth Boundary, the future of tourism, the feasibility of moving the library to a permanent location, and many other equally important decisions that will be made during the next four years. Make sure you get you voice heard through your vote. Make sure you understand how the candidates measure up on these issues. Call them, e-mail them, read the voters guide, ask someone you trust, just make sure you are educated on the issues and vote before Nov 5th

Voting is your right and your opportunity to make a change. Please take the time to register and to vote, it will make a difference.

As long as were asking for your help, we would also like to ask that you try and attend at least 3 neighborhood meetings this next year. These meetings are a very important conduit to our policy makers, even though they often don?’t attend, the message does get to them and your wishes and concerns are being heard. Please make an effort to attend these meetings they are fun and informative.
