The Converse Fire Department received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to purchase smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. With this money, the Department purchased 700 smoke alarms and 380 fire extinguishers. This program is open to residents of the City of Converse and residents of Bexar County Emergency Service District # 1 (Ventura II, Spring Meadows, Meadowbrook, Millers Point, Crownwood, Summit Ridge, Walzem Park, Dover, Fields of Dover, and parts of Brentfield). The Converse Fire Department, at the request of the resident, will do a home fire safety inspection, test any smoke alarms in the residence, and replace any batteries, if necessary. They will replace any non-working alarms with a new one, or replace any over 10 years old. The Converse Fire Department will also give instructions on how to test, maintain, and use smoke alarms and fire extinguishers.
The Converse Fire Department will provide this service at no cost. They do ask that the resident make a monetary donation to the fire department which will be put into an account to purchase more smoke alarms and fire extinguishers once they use up the supply they have. This would allow them to keep the program going for years to come. For more information, call the fire station
at 658-8900.
I ran this notice in July?’s Newsletter, I feel it was important to run it a second time due to the lack of Neighborhood interest. Donate what you think their services are worth to you, your home and your family.
