Meadowbrook Lane Neighborhood Watch

Back to school

Aug 20, 2009

Summer is almost gone and it's time to get the kids ready for school once again. With the days growing shorter and the nights getting longer, the kids will be leaving home in pre-dawn hours to catch the bus. Since we don't have any street lights in our subdivision, I recommend lighting up the streets with our porch lights and/or lawn lamps, to aid the children in getting to the bus stop safely. Open your blinds and shades in your houses and look outside during these school hours. We want the chidren to know that we are watching out for their safety. If you drive your child to school or car pool, drive safely during these hours. Kids rather walk on the streets than on the sidewalks.

Make sure your shrubs and bushes are trimmed to a resonable size as not to harbor would be robbers or muggers. Large pine trees should be trimmed up at least five feet off of the ground. The more visibility your home has from the street, the less hiding places for criminals.

Backyard lights or motion detectors, are highly recommended. Don't forget that most of us get home from work after dark during the fall and winter months. Walking from your car or your garage in the dark could be dangerous. If we all take heed to these tips, our neighborhood will be safe as possible.

Remember, report anything you think is suspicious to your block captain.
