Millwood Entrance Sign Update

As I'm sure your already aware our entrance sign has changed.  In late June our entrance sign was vandalized and was no longer able to be used.  As such we embarked upon a replacement project.  By luck we stumbled onto funding that would allow us to be able to replace the sign at zero cost to our residents.  We are still working thru this process and hope to have a permanent sign in place by 1st quarter 2011.  In the interim, a temporary sign has been hung, many thanks to the generous resident who spent their time building it.  Feel free to stop back at this page and check for updates.  We appreciate your continued patience with this project.

Below is our timeline of events so far for this project:

6/25-Original sign damaged in late June, turned up in Nautical Cove.  Was recovered and deemed not able to be reused.

7/8-Full specs/pix gathered for original sign in order to achieve new quotes.  (Information on record)

7/15- At the request of NCC Police, quotes were requested from 3 sources to replace the existing sign exactly. (Sign Express, Fast Signs and Signarama).

7/26-Quotes for original sign replacement returned, ranging in cost from $700-$1,200.

7/27-Understanding the original sign wasn’t very aesthetically pleasing quotes for a nicer sign were pursued.  Specifically focusing on maintenance friendly materials.  Cost was higher.

7/27-Simultaneously we learned about a sign funding program and contacted our local senator.

8/5-Put in contact with District Senator Bethany Hall-Long and program was confirmed.

8/5-25-Researched process, application was submitted to senators office/DelDOT on 8/25.

9/29-DelDot makes 1st contact to set up physical site meeting.

10/6-Meeting held with DelDOT and Senator.  During meeting it was deemed some land must be dedicated as current sign rests partly on 64 Millwood parcel.  Project can’t go forward without the sign resting solely on public open space.

10/7-Senators office indicates funding would be approved and maybe an added bonus would be thrown in.

10/14-Dedication forms completed, notarized and filed with deed recorder’s office.  DelDot must await confirmation from deed recorders that it was done.

10/22-Temporary sign installed.

10/27-Confirmation of Dedication Forms returned from deed recorder’s office to board.

10/29-Confirmation acknowledged by DelDOT.  They subsequently sent formal requests to their vendors for quotes for replacement of the sign.

11/18-Official confirmation of sign funding to DelDOT received from Senator's office and a bonus repointing of existing brick columns was added.  Formal letter to be mailed to board.

11/19-Board receives Right of way use agreement from DelDOT, must be signed and returned before work can be done.  Signatures done 11/22 and mailed back 11/23

12/2-Executed Right of way use agreement returned from DelDOT, project was given the go ahead to proceed per DelDOT.

12/2-Inquiry of status sent on 12/2 to original DelDOT contact.

12/3-DelDot acknowledged a “Notice to Proceed” had been sent to both their sign and brick vendors and that they would be contacting us shortly.

12/29-Met with Signarama to discuss project, additional details to follow.

1/5/2011-Brick Dr. began column cleaning/sealing process.

1/15/2011-Mockups received for sign variables from Signarama.  Board met to discuss variables and process to include residents in final design selection.  Newsletter will go out with details on next steps and links for residents to use to ensure an efficient, easy to follow process.

2/6/2011- Winter 2011 Newsletter distributed.  Residents now have until 2/20/11 to respond with their preferences for the new sign.  Once this is done final variables will be submitted to Signarama for sign production.  If you have not yet voted, please do!

2/22/2011-The voting period has officially ended and we are happy to report that 65% of our residents participated.  The results are available for you to view by using below website link.  Our next steps are to submit the final specs to the sign vendor and then finally we can get our new sign.  The estimated completion time they have given us is 5 weeks.  Thanks so much for participating!

3/2/2011-Worked with Signarama over the past week to make final tweaks to the mockup based on voter results.  A final mock up is available at:  http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/files/document/417236 .  They officially have everything they need to produce the sign.  Estimated time to completion is 5 weeks.  Stay tuned!

4/14/2011-Touched based with Signarama as we are beyond 5 weeks.  Was given an installation date of 4/25.  Keep an eye out as you turn in!

4/26/2011-Sign installation was delayed until the week of 5/2, Signarama indicated they had some issues that didn’t allow for installation on 4/25.

4/27/2011-New sign has been installed, Enjoy!
