Millwood Road Repaving Update

A few months ago the board submitted a request to have the streets in Millwood repaved as some deterioration was beginning to occur.  Over the past few years we have submitted requests to have a few spots repaired by DelDot, most notably the entrance way.  However after a rough winter and our learning that the waiting list for complete repaving was lengthy we decided to submit a formal request to have them done.  DelDot's process is to work witjh our state representative and complete a road rating evaluation and determine what needs repaired.  After that evaluation, almost all of the roads within the development fall into a rating category of "very good", only one falls into the "good" category but is still not eligible for repaving.  The official correspondence from our State Representative Quinn Johnson is below.

Additionally, separate from this request Quinn is requesting to have Bethel Church repaved which would fix our entrance way, as we get more information on that request we will share.

Thank you!

Here are the road ratings for the development. If a road is fairly long then it is laid out into sections. Example is Millwood Drive. It starts a mile reading .00 and goes to mile reading .07. The next section of road goes from .07 to .21. Each section will have it's own rating and each section would be done as a separate estimate and potentially as a separate job. The reason that it is done this way is because depending on the lay out of developments, some areas of a road may get substantially more traffic than other parts of the road. Therefore, some areas of Millwood Drive may be ok, while other sections would need replacement. The number assigned in the second to last column is the rating of the road. 100 means the road is in perfect condition and recently paved. DelDOTs current recommendation is that anything that is rated 50 or lower needs attention. The following is from DelDOT and how they classify the ratings.  These ratings were done during calendar year 2013. For the OPC (overall pavement condition, 2nd to last) column, the lower the number the worse the condition.  So 50 or less is poor, 50-60 is fair, 60-70 good, above 70 is very good.

As we discussed, every neighborhood road is in a list and monitored for condition. We will continue to monitor the condition of the streets in Millwood. If there are any issues that arise please don't hesitate to call me or Senator Hall Long. We will also gladly meet with any of the residents to explain the process to them as well.
