Spring 2001 Clean-up Approaching Fast!

Feb 08, 2001

Believe it or not, the Montavilla Spring Clean-up is coming up fast. This year it will be held in April 7th. For those who haven't experienced one of these, this is where you bring all your unwanted junk (but no hazardous material like paint, oil, etc) that is taking up room in your garage, yard, or house and get rid of it. Last year we even had a place for old tires. I had a bunch of large pieces of wood in the backyard that the previous owner left that I got rid of. When you get there, you drive up, volunteers help you unload it, and you are on your way. It's free to all Montavilla residents but the neighborhood assoc usually will ask for a small donation (whatever the residents want to give) to help with the costs. As usual, it will be held at a local church parking lot where we will have many large dumpsters available for all your junk needs. We will also have voluneers with trucks
going out to senior and disabled residents homes to pick up their junk. Last year we filled 15 very large dumpsters but this year we want to top that.

We are starting now to plan the clean-up and are looking for volunteers. Not only will we need help on that day (at the clean-up and picking up from residents who aren't able to get there) but we will need help getting the word out. Last year, because of the lack of volunteers, many Montavilla neighbors didn't hear about it. We
are starting early this year so that won't happen again.

We have broken the Montavilla neighborhood up into approximately 70 sections. These sections contain about 6 blocks. We need volunteers
to sign up for one or two sections and deliver flyers to all the dwellings (homes, apts, and businesses) in each area. To give you a better idea of the size of the areas, one of my sections is from NE Glisan to NE Burnside, from NE 78th Ave to NE 75th Ave (there is no NE 77th Ave). The sections are very manageable.

These sections will also be used to deliver newsletters when we begin that project.

The flyers are in the works and we are hoping to start distributing them soon. If you are willing to help (either passing out flyers, at the clean-up, or picking up for senior and disabled residents) or if you know someone that you think would benefit from the pick up service that day, contact Kimberly at kmbrly101@hotmail.com or 503/262-0831.
