Wilcox Elementary School receives State, National honors

Jan 14, 2001

Wilcox Elementary School has been selected by the Oregon Department of Education as a model school in the Oregon Programs of Merit for the 2000-2001 school year for the second year in a row.

In addition to serving as an Oregon Program of Merit, ODE has recognized Wilcox as a National Title I Distinguished School. The honor is accompanied by an award of $3,000, which will allow two representatives from the school to attend the International Reading Association?’s National Conference in New Orleans next May.

To receive these awards, a school must demonstrate a strong or exceptional overall rating on the 2000 Report Card, and must have spring 2000 Oregon Statewide Assessment scores at or above the state average of the percent meeting standards at each benchmark level in the school.

Wilcox will be recognized for these accomplishments at the opening night of the OACE Winter Conference Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001. In addition, Wilcox will be included in ODE?’s 2000-2001 edition of "What Schools Should I Visit?".

Wilcox Elementary School is part of the Madison High School Cluster. Approximately 200 students attend Wilcox.
