City of Mesa hosts monthly Diversity Dialogue
The City of Mesa's Diversity Office will host a Diversity Dialogue on ADA: An Overview on Tuesday, May 16, Noon - 1:00 p.m., at the Mesa Public Library Saguaro Room, 64 E. First St., in downtown Mesa.
Diversity Dialogues, monthly brown bag lunch discussions about the people and issues that shape our community, are held on the third Tuesday of each month and are open to all.
Councilmember Janie Thom will moderate the May 16 session.
The scheduled speaker is Tony DiRienzi, an individual who has been active in the disability community for most his life. He is currently the executive director of the Arizona Governor's Statewide Independent Living Council (AZ SILC). Prior to AZ SILC Tony coordinated the Early Intervention Program at Arizona Bridge to Independent Living (ABIL). ABIL's Early Intervention program is designed to work with individuals and their families shortly after a catastrophic trauma or medical incident that resulted in a disability. Tony used to regularly visit all the major rehab facilities in the valley to help those individuals and their families adapt to living with a significant disability. He worked with the Physical and Occupational Therapists in the rehab units to assist with links to programs, services, and resources in the community.
Attendees are welcome to bring their lunch. Beverages will be provided.
