Grande Groundbreaking ceremony celebrates neighborhood revitalization
The Mesa Grande neighborhood is celebrating the demolition of the abandoned building on Main and Sycamore Streets to make way for the new METRO rail station. Residents are invited to join this celebration of a new beginning for the Mesa Grande neighborhood. The Grande Groundbreaking event will take place on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 on the northwest corner of Main and Sycamore Streets, just east of Dobson Road. The ceremony and building demo begins at 7 A.M. Breakfast will be served, courtesy of the Line Section 5 contractor, Sundt/Stacy & Witbeck Joint Venture.
"The Mesa Grande neighborhood is very eager to see this building come down," stated Dave Richins, Mesa Grande spokesperson. "This represents an exciting time for the community and we are looking forward to celebrating this time of neighborhood renewal with this symbolic event."
Vice Mayor Walters will kick-off the event by welcoming guests, followed by Mesa Grande representative Dave Richins, who will speak about the significance of the project to the community. Guests will then witness Dave climbing aboard a trackhoe to take the first official crack at the building walls. Food and refreshments will be served immediately afterwards. METRO staff will also be present to answer questions guests may have regarding construction and the METRO project.
The Grande Groundbreaking is sponsored by METRO, in conjunction with Sundt/Stacy & Witbeck Joint Venture and Breinholt Contracting Company.
