A monthly reflection of Englewood History
Cinderella City Mall opened on March 7, 1968 and quickly became the regional "princess" of retail. The mall boasted over 250 shops, 7,000 free parking spaces, and two miles of shopping area. In the first year of operation, Cinderella City generated $80 million in sales taxes and an estimated 40,000 shoppers visited the mall daily. From the early 1980s to the mid 1990s, the mall began a slow decline, and by the end of 1997, the mall was entirely vacant. The former Cinderella City site is now being developed to include retail, entertainment, residential, office and open space. The former Foley's building is the only remaining structure and is being renovated into the Civic Center.
