North Greenacres Park Land Purchased by City Council

Park will be a Reality on Long next to Future Elementary

The Spokane Valley City Council approved making an offer on the land for sale next to the future Mission and Long elementary school property. The park appropriation money from the legislature looks very good since our neighborhood came in 14th in the grant process of over 60 applications. Spokane Valley Park Director Mike Jackson deserves a lot of thanks for working the extra hours needed in the eleventh hours to get the grant application turned in on time last year.

Your Attendance at our Neighborhood Meetings Made a Difference

As a new City, Mike Jackson, Park Director , had to write the entire Parks Master Plan before anything else could be done. He had barely finished that project when the May deadline was barely two weeks off. He finished and our neighborhood assisted in provided the documentation of community of support. Our neighbood meetings at the Greenacres Christian Church made a difference. Special thanks to the Park Committee for their hard work. Kurt Parker took some great photos of the land for the grant process and has contributed an amazing amount of time in helping our neighborhood work on acquiring park land. His faithful tenacity is inspiring.

More Park Work Ahead, to Meet Neighhood Support for 2008 Grant

There's an opportunity for us to work with Central Valley School District and build a mutual school/park by sharing the open space of the school in the planning. The school district typically needs 12 acres to build a school. It is our good fortune that they ended up purchasing 17 in order to acquire this location. That means there is 5 extra school acres to build the park. This will entail City/School agreements and also maintenance agreements. Let us hope that the school and the city can play well together so the children and community have a great park. We will be meeting to put together survey of what we are visioning in a park. We will also need to find contributors to give time helping to build the pavilion, landscaping, putting together playground equipment, acquiring plantings for the park and elbow grease to get the job done. Please make attending the future park meetings a priority. This will be a legacy for tomorrow.
