Relief is in sight for those looking to cool off at city pools in August. Today, the Phoenix City Council approved a city budget that restores weekend hours in August at all city pools through Labor Day. Through Aug. 5, all pools are open seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m. Weekend operation begins Aug. 11.
In 2006, pools closed for the season on Aug. 6.
Phoenix public pools are a great value ?– admission is only 50 cents for youth ages 17 and under and for seniors over the age of 50. Admission for adults is $1.50.
Season passes and other discounts also are available, including free admission for youth ages 17 and under at 20 pools through our Kool Kids program. Kool Kids sponsors and participating pools are listed online at phoenix.gov/SPORTS/koolkids.html.
Additionally, there are still some open general swim classes that meet for eight sessions over a two-week period. Residents can get more information on these classes and register online for them by going to phoenix.gov/parks and selecting the Classes and Programs link.
Hours of operation for the city's 29 pools are noon to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Additional general pool information is available by calling 602-262-6541 or going online to phoenix.gov/parks and selecting the Pools link.
