NEAC voted against the proposal by Macedonia Baptist Church to demolish 530-532 Oakwood as part of a new parking lot. This is part of a continuing pattern of tearing down property and not replacing it with something of greater value. legally, Macedonia can proceed with the demolition, however they will need to file for a variance to use the land located at Oakwood and Mound as a parking lot. NEAC is viewing the increase in vacant property as not only a loss in aesthetics, but in property and voter bases as well. This does nothing to improve our image to the buisiness and political world which are essential to the continued growth of our area. This has been communicated in writing to Dana Rose, Chris Perzutti, The Honorable Michael Mentel, and Walter Cates. We did request that Macedonia not destroy the trees at the rear of the property. Two trees have been removed from the site. A report was supplied by an arborist confirming were found to be decayed beyond repair and had to be removed.
