Newkirk Estates Civic Assn.

Minutes from June 12, 2018

At 7:00 pm the meeting was called to order by President Ray Schafferman.  Fourteen people were in attendance.  Each one signed a paper that is attached to the Secretary’s copy of the minutes.

The minutes from the March meeting were reviewed by the Secretary Andrew Mackiewicz.  These minutes were approved as read.

Mary Beth Coté, the Treasurer, read the Treasury Report.  These reports can be seen at any regular meeting.

The topic of the collection of unpaid dues was discussed.  A motion was made to look into the cost of pursuing legal action against homeowners with outstanding unpaid dues.  The motion was approved.  Ray said he would contact a law firm to find out further information.

A member of the community expressed concerns of complaints made to New Castle County going unaddressed.  It was suggested that our New Castle County Councilman, Tim Sheldon, be contacted to voice any concerns related to county issues.

At a previous meeting, it was deemed necessary to make revisions to the Newkirk Estates Bylaws.  Prior to this meeting, the revisions were given to all residents of the neighborhood to provide notice, as outlined in said bylaws.  The revisions were read aloud by Ray.  The revisions to the bylaws were then approved by the residents in attendance.  An updated copy of the Newkirk Estates Bylaws can be found online.  (See the Pages & Links link above)

Toni read her report regarding the community yard sale that was held on May 5th.  The report contained details surrounding advertisement for the event as well as participation.  Any suggestions on how to improve future events are appreciated and can be discussed at future meetings.

Additionally, Bob Rogers was recognized for being awarded the Tom Bissot Award from Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 pm.

Our next scheduled neighborhood meeting is Tuesday, September 25th at 7:00 pm, the location in TBD.  All residents are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Andrew Mackiewicz
