HPD's Community Policing is a partnership between the police and concerned law abiding citizens in HPD's Neighborhood Security Watch Program. Their purpose is to create permanent solutions to problems and thereby make neighborhoods a safer place to live. Community Policing recognizes that the police can not effectively deal with crime and crime-related problems alone. It focuses on a "team" approach. This means developing cooperative working relationships between the police, local government agencies, private agencies, and community citizens for a common goal: Enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood by enforcing laws, preserving the peace, reducing fear and providing a safe environment.

Take a Stand
Criminal behavior can only disrupt our neighborhood if we allow it to happen. Each one of us bears the responsibility to do what we can to stop it. We need to make sure that the proper authorities know about any problems IMMEDIATELY , and react RAPIDLY to fix the problem. And then, we make sure that problems STAY solved when we as individuals FOLLOW UP by re-contacting the authorities to find out what action has been taken. This is OUR neighborhood, NOT the criminal's. When we take a stand TOGETHER, we take our neighborhood back.

Get Involved
As NSW members, we are non-confrontational and operate as extended eyes, ears and sometimes, noses of the community for HPD's Community Policing Teams. By participating in a program where "WE LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER!", we can make a real difference in attacking crime in our community. Call 911. Report all emergencies and any disruptive or suspicious activities and people. Meet with the officers that respond to your call and express your concerns. Make a difference by getting involved.
