President's Words:
It has taken several years, a lot of struggling, and hard work, but we are finally on the road to getting our park fixed up! The City paid for a professional park planner to come up with a master plan. The developer for the new subdivision at Chelsea and FM 1103 has generously donated $30,000 worth of materials and labor. He will be doing about ?¼ mile of cement walking paths, a full court basketball court, and cement slabs for a pavilion and picnic tables. Randolph Brooks Credit Union has donated $1,000.00. Several other generous donations are soon to be confirmed. As soon as the final plan has been approved by the City, we will begin. We hope to have a lot of the work completed before National Night Out in August. We will still have lots to do, but at least we are on our way.

That is the only city park we have for 7 miles, and we need to make it work for our citizens. Families interested in participating in community builds that will continue to improve and enhance the park, please Email Friends of Northern Schertz Parks, the charitable, non-profit organization set by some members of our community. We will be able to keep a list of interested families who want to help. That Email address is: northcliffepark@aol.com.

UPCOMING ELECTIONS

Ms. Sue Basham, the new Guadalupe County Elections Administrator, spoke at our April 11th Community meeting and reminded us of the importance of voting in the May 12, 2007 elections. Although Schertz will not be holding an election this year, there will be school board elections as well as one other VERY IMPORTANT issue that must be voted on. This is a Texas constitutional amendment election that involves unfreezing the taxes of persons 65 and over so that their taxes can be lowered. When the law was passed to freeze the taxes of seniors, there was no provision to allow them to be lowered if taxes subsequently went down. The taxes have gone down, but this amendment must be passed if seniors are also to benefit. Listed below are the dates, times and locations for voting:
Guadalupe County Residents

PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS-GET OUT AND VOTE!

Guns, BB Guns & Pellet Guns

Northcliffe is no longer in the country. We are residents of the City of Schertz, and as such, are subject to their laws and codes. This includes the law against all standard guns, BB guns and pellet guns. There is NO residential exception to this ordinance. Violation of this section shall constitute a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punishable by a fine pursuant to the general penalty set forth in the code. The City could also bring civil action against the defendant. In other words, BB Guns, pellet gun, and all other guns are illegal within the Schertz city limits. There would not be a need to address this if issues had not already occurred. Irresponsible Teens are walking the neighborhood shooting out security lights in the front of homes and street lights. Please call the police when you find or see this happening. We will not have a safe neighborhood until we actively participate. Help us make your streets better, PLEASE!!

Schertz Youth Commission

The Schertz Youth Commission is looking for new members. This is a wonderful organization that represents the City?’s high school age citizens. The Commission has a total of 13 members consisting of two representatives appointed by each City Councilmember and three appointed by the Mayor. The Commission meets once a month or as required to discuss issues and concerns that affect the City?’s youth.

Student members must reside in the City, attend public or private schools within or outside of the City or are home schooled, are enrolled in grades 9-12, desire to contribute to the goals and objectives of the Commission, and are available and agree to participate in the Commission?’s meetings and activities.

Commission members will have one-on-one contact with City Councilmembers and the Mayor to give the Commission?’s input regarding ways the City can be effectively involved in the concerns of Schertz?’s youth as well as all of Schertz?’s citizens. Your work will affect the youth of Schertz in a positive way now and for years to come.

Contact the City Secretary at City Hall (658-7477 ext. 1131) and request an application.

The Mayor, City Council, and City Staff strongly support the Schertz Youth Commission and hope the youth of our City want to be involved.

Monthly Police Calls For MARCH 07

The Northcliffe community welcomed Officer Chris Duprat who has been designated the HOA liaison for the Schertz Police Department. He has taken over from Officer Kreutzer who retired in February. We extend sincere thanks to Officer Kreutzer for providing us with copies of our crime stats over the past several years. Officer Duprat will now assume that duty among many others.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT/
COMMUNITY PICNIC

National Night Out is August 7, 2007, and plans are progressing for a multi-community picnic and celebration. Festivities will be held at the Northcliffe City Park from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

The "24th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), is unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. It is designed to promote neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships in the fight for a safer nation.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
?• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
?• Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
?• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
?• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
We will be working together with the Fairways at Scenic Hills, but plan to also network with Whisper Meadow and Scenic Hills. Preliminary plans call for reserving the pool, having games, prizes, sausages, hot dogs and soft drinks. The Fire Department will provide a truck and the Police Department will have displays for the children. The committee is working to make this a fun-filled evening that can help bring our communities together.
