FROM THE PRESIDENT

Saturday November 11th, a number of parents and children of various ages, attended a meeting at the old fire station on Morning Drive. The meeting was organized by ?“Friends of Northern Schertz Parks?” (?“Friends?”). The purpose of the focus group was to find out what activities and equipment the kids, as well as the parents, would like to see in the park on Cherry Tree. ?“Friends?” took that information and met with Ms. Gail Douglas, chief of Community Services for the City, and a professional park planner. The City has agreed to provide a professionally developed park plan. Once ?“Friends?” has that plan they will begin enhancements to the park. It has been a slow process, but we are excited that progress is being made.

?“Friends of Northern Schertz Parks?” is not a HOA initiative, but a charitable, tax exempt organization formed by citizens from several of our neighborhoods. Our primary purpose and goal is to promote the development of public parks for the recreational enjoyment of all citizens in the northern part of the City of Schertz. ?“Friends?” formed out of necessity as there are NO recreational facilities out here for children above the age of 4. The City has not wanted to invest any additional funds in our only park area because of the vandalism that has occurred on several occasions. They install equipment and a few undisciplined, anti-social individuals destroy it either out of ignorance or because they have nothing else to do but destroy property. ?“Friend?” believes that providing a variety of activities and equipment to serve all ages will help alleviate the destruction. They also feel that facilities that provide for family interaction (a picnic pavilion) will help to strengthen our community.

?“Friends?” has been able to raise a substantial amount of money to date, and will soon be able to begin revitalizing our park. However, they have not been able to raise all of the money that will be required to complete the revitilization. Continued fund raisers and donations will be necessary. I will provide updates as their efforts progress. Anyone that would like to contribute to ?“Friends of Northern Schertz Parks?” should send a check to the organization at: P.O. Box 502, Cibolo, TX 78108. A receipt will be issued and your donation IS tax deductible.

City to Maintain Country Club Blvd.

We were very happy to hear that Schertz has budgeted funds for this year to maintain Country Club. Blvd. Previously, Fairways HOA, Northcliffe HOA, and the Golf Course have split the responsibilities.

STREET SWEEPER-
The city street sweepers come through Northcliffe on the last Friday of each month. If there are too many cars on a particular street the city says they will NOT clean your street.

WELCOME NEIGHBORS
Susan from ?“Welcome Neighbor?” has agreed to greet new neighbors with a basket of goodies. She has lots of information about the area and coupons from various businesses for FREE. Please contact Duane at (830)609-0906 or Maria (830)606-1130 if you are new to the neighborhood.

DON?’T BLOCK STREETS OR SIDEWALKS
City of Schertz Chief of Police Stephen Starr reminds residents that it is against the law to block sidewalks, streets or any public right-of-way with any obstruction. Residents blocking the sidewalks with their vehicles is becoming an issue. If you pull your vehicle into your driveway and a portion of the vehicle extends past the driveway, you are obstructing the sidewalk and, therefore, breaking the law.

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE
FM 1103 ROUTE STUDY

Thursday, Dec 7th, TxDot will conduct a public meeting on the FM 1103 Route Study. The study area extends the entire length of FM 1103 to FM 78 and 6 miles further to IH 10. The purpose of the study is to perform a preliminary assessment of a possible further widening of FM 1103 between IH 35 and FM 78 (to 6 lanes) in addition to the current construction project, and investigate a possible extension of FM 1103 from FM 78 to IH 10. The meeting will be held at Byron Steele High School, and will start with an Open House from 6:30-7:00 PM, followed by a presentation from 7:00-7:15 PM. The meeting will explain the route study process and the study recommendation. Maps of the project area and other displays will be available for review.

NEW BRAUNFELS COMMUNITY CHORALE WANTS YOU!

HOT MEALS PROGRAM FOR SENIORS

The Hot Meals Program serves lunches Mondays & Thursdays, 11:45 am, at the Schertz Community Center on Schertz Parkway. Folks arrive early and stay later to play Bingo and Dominoes. The cost is only $2.50. The food is great and the people are nice. They have been serving 30-60 meals on Thursday alone. They provide home deliveries in the immediate area, but if we can find volunteer drivers and enough interest in our area we may be able to get home delivery here too. It would only take about 5-10 orders to justify it. If you are interested in volunteering to drive or feel that you need to have hot meals delivered to your home, call Sally at (830) 625-2496.

BLOCK CAPTAIN NEEDED

We need a homeowner who is willing to deliver the Northcliffe News to 8 homes on Morning/Cherrytree every month. This is a great job for anyone who likes to take a daily walk. You would just need to leave them in the door. Please call Maria: (830) 606-1130 if you are interested.
