MEET JIMMY WALKER:

If you drive all the way up Columbia
to the water towers at the top of the
hill, you will see Lee Trevino Street,
Ping Street, and Fred Couples Street
among other famous golfing names.
However, the very first street by the
water towers is Jimmy Walker Street.
You may ask: ?“Who is Jimmy
Walker??” Many from our community
have known Jimmy since his parents
moved to Northcliffe in 1990 when
Jimmy was 11 years old. Then, and
for many years after, his parents
would get him up very early every
morning so he could go out and play
a round of golf with the older men
who would tee off at dawn. His
mother, Barbara, said that they were
all very patient in allowing him to
play with them before he had to go to
school. Jimmy learned the game
from his father who was a scratch
golfer. Those early mornings and
dedication paid off. Jimmy graduated
from Canyon High School and
went on to Baylor University on a
golf scholarship. Today he is on the
Professional Golfers Association
Tour (PGA). Prior to gaining PGA
status, Jimmy was the second youngest
player to earn Nationwide Tour
Player of the Year honors. When he
was on the Nationwide Tour the announcers
would refer to him as ?“The
Tall Texan?”, and he became just the
eighth player in Tour history to post
three eagles in one round. When
Jimmy first joined the PGA Tour in
2005 he sustained a neck injury during
the first tournament of the year,
and was limited to the amount he
could play. He returned to the Nationwide
Tour for 2007, but again
earned his way back to the PGA tour
by finishing in the top 25 on the Nationwide
Tour money list for the season.
His biggest thrill in golf so far
has been to qualify for and play in
the 2001 U.S. Open Golf Championship
at the age of 22. Jimmy met his
wife Erin at a Nationwide Tour event
in 2004 where she was a tournament
volunteer. They married in 2006 and
currently reside in Boerne, Texas.
