Spring Clean-up

It?’s time to clean up our neighborhoods! The vacation is over and the grass is growing.

The HOA recently received an Email from a homeowner pleading with us to help him do something about a neighbor who refuses to mow his yard. We have, in turn, reported the problem to our liaison at the Inspections Department for the City. When we make our monthly Deed Restriction rounds, we identify City Code violations at the same time and report them to our City contact per our agreement with the City. This is not done in an attempt to harass anyone. It is done to try to improve and maintain the quality of our community. Every homeowner should want to take pride in the appearance of his home and neighborhood.

If you have a neighbor who is ill or unable to afford a working lawnmower or lawn service, why not help them out? You?’ll not only be helping another person, but providing a community service. Please maintain your yards, pick up trash and help make Northcliffe a place were people can be proud to live.

Quarterly Community Meeting

Speakers at our next Community Meeting will include Ms. Sue Basham, Elections Administrator for Guadalupe County. Ms. Basham will be talking about the County?’s efforts to increase voting participation. School Board Candidate John Correu from Schertz, and our new Police Department HOA Liaison, Officer Christopher Duprat will also be speaking. See details above for location and time.

Stray Dogs

A number of homeowners have expressed their dismay over dogs that get out of their owners?’ yards and roam the streets. They want to walk for exercise or walk their own pets, but are afraid of being attacked. Several months ago one of my neighbors was walking her puppy and a large dog jumped on its back injuring its hip. Most of these dogs have collars, but do not have name tags or any way of identifying where they live. The owners obviously do not care about their safety or welfare. Most people do not want to call Animal Control for fear that the dog will be euthanized. However, Schertz?’s shelter is a ?“No Kill?” facility. The animal will be much better off in a facility that cares for its animals rather than roaming the streets hungry and risking injury from automobiles. If you see a stray dog please call (210) 658-6607.

Junk Vehicles

We get a lot of calls about ?“so & so?’s?” junk vehicle on ?“such & such?” street. We do check out those calls and report them to the City of Schertz. The City then takes whatever action is required. The State of Texas, in it?’s Transportation Code, defines ?“junked vehicles?” as a vehicle that has an expired license or registration and is:
a. Wrecked, dismantled or partially dismantled or discarded, or
b. Inoperable and remained inoperable for more than 72 hours on public property or 30 days if on private property.

Section 10 of our City Ordinance states that an unlicensed and/or non-inspected vehicle is subject to removal and disposal if it is on private property and/or visible from the street.

Bottom line: Neither the State, City, or citizens of our community want to see the neighborhood trashed with unsightly junk vehicles.

HOA DUES DRIVE

Our Homeowners?’ Association is currently in the midst of it annual membership dues drive. We have had excellent results from the application we included in January?’s newsletter and the postcards we sent to previous members who had paid their dues in the past. However, we need more support from our neighbors who are concerned about the quality of our neighborhood. By paying the annual $25.00 dues, you have a counted vote at community meetings; help to maintain the landmark American flag that so proudly flies in our neighborhood and support services like this newsletter. Thank you for your support.
