Zero Waste | Help reduce waste going to our landfill

It is easy! THINK BLUE BIN BEFORE TOSSING YOUR WASTE. Just put
the right stuff in the blue bin and make sure the lid closes. Share this list with
your neighbor. You can get up to three free blue bins from the city. Blue Bin
accepted items include PAPER, GLASS, ALUMINUM, CARTONS, PLASTIC and BUCKETS. NO PLASTIC BAGS.

Got sharps, e-waste (computers and TVs), or home generated batteries and you want to dispose of them properly? Just stop by EDCO at 6700 Federal Blvd, Lemon Grove. They are open 8am-4pm, 7 days a week and you can call (619) 287-7555 for updates.

A recent neighborhood survey showed that many people are putting cardboard and recyclables in their black bins. STOP the madness. Put the glass, paper, metal, and cardboard in the blue bin. If you have a lot, take it to the recycler. The goal is to minimize contents in the black bins and dumpsters. We can all make a difference.

The California Governor has declared a state of emergency due to the drought. Let’s share our water saving tips. When taking a shower, use a bucket to collect the initial warm up water. Use this water for your plants. Water landscape plants in the morning for maximum effectiveness. Wa-tering during the heat of the day can result in excess evaporation. Watering late at night can lead to mold and fungus problems on some plants.

Check with your local paint store about recycling old paint. Ask the store, or go to  www.paintcare.org or call 855-724-6809. No leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers are accepted. For other household hazardous waste disposal call 858-694-7000 or go to http://www.sandiego.gov/environmental-services/ .
