Youth Catfish Fishing Derby

Youth Catfish DerbySaturday, October 24th, 8 a.m., FREE. Each youth under 16 years old gets a free rod and reel provided by STAR/PAL. Free T-shirt, lunch, and prizes for first 300 participating youths as well. Bring shrimp or mackerel for bait, or use bait provided by lake staff. See www.starpal.org. FREE fishing clinic. Year-round on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your under 16 year olds and let them hook their first catch. Take a book, leave a book. If you have extra books to share, this could be the place to trade in the novels you read over the summer for some fresh pages for the Fall.

Fall is a perfect time to go fishing. Bring your Kids under 15 years old to the weekly FREE fishing clinic on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and let them hook their first catch.

Come enjoy a Ranger-lead Nature Walk at 2 p.m. the 3rd Saturday of the month--this month it will be on September 19th. See you there!

WALK AT CHOLLAS LAKE PARK
A fund raising walk-a-thon for the Father2Child Program will be sponsored by BAPAC on Saturday, June 7th at 7:30 am to 11:30 am. Show up early to register, wear your good walking shoes. Meet in the main parking lot at Chollas Lake.

NEW GRILLS: For those of you who like to picnic at Chollas Lake and use the grills you'll see new grates on the grills. Enjoy them, clean up after yourself, keep things nice for the next family. Lake number is 619-527-7683

FISHING CLINIC each Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 2 pm. This is for kids 15 years and under only. Clinic is FREE and poles and bait are furnished. Learn to fish, learn the rules of good sportsmanship. Still looking for experienced adults to help teach.  If you are an experienced fisherman (or woman) and would like to volunteer at the Fishing Clinic please call the above number. Even one day a month would be very much appreciated.

Chollas Lake Park will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, plus Christmas and New Years.

The park is open from 6:30am until one half (1/2) hour before sunset. North Chollas Canyon closes one (1) hour before sunset. The park is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day as well as closures for inclement weather.

Fishing is free for children 15 and younger. Walking around the lake will get you 0.8 miles per lap. If you are adventurous and go off the trail, remember the snakes could be out sunbathing.
