Results of Annual Member's Meeting

Jan 29, 2005

Per the ORHA By-Laws, the Annual Member's Meeting was held on Monday, January 10, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at the North Shelby County Library. A quorum of 18 households was represented. Thanks to the persons listed above, who have agreed to serve this year. Some of the topics discussed were:

Front Entrance Maintenance: Mike Evers will organize the following men, who have kindly volunteered to help with the front entrance, rather than paying for a lawn service: James Arrington, Patrick Joseph, Bobby Watts, Donny Acton, Neil Jensen, Rance Cleary, Marty Heim, and Ed Smith. If you would like to help, please contact Mike Evers by email at mikee@sepcousa.com, or cell 586-2949, or home 981-2949.

Annexation: It appears that any future annexation of our neighborhood would likely be into either Indian Springs Village, or the City of Pelham. The concensus at the meeting was to maintain our present zoning (Unincorporated Portion of Shelby County), unless we are forced to make a decision. No further efforts will be taken by ORHA at this time to seek out annexation opportunities.

Football Parking: Strong concerns were expressed regarding the safety issues raised by the football game parking near the front entrance on both sides of the streets of our neighborhood when Oak Mountain High School has a home game. Since we have only one entrance to our neighborhood, the road must remain clear for larger emergency response vehicles, such as fire trucks and EMT vehicles, to pass unimpeded. Between now and football season, the plan is to arrange for a combination or warning signs, or orange cones, to place near the front entrance prior to the football games. We will also contact the Shelby County Sheriff?’s Department to see if there is anything else we can do to address the issue.

Other Traffic Concerns: Strong concerns were also expressed regarding the safety issues raised by cars parking on both sides of the street around the curve at the top of the hill on Oak Ridge Drive. This reduces the road to one lane, reduces visibility of children in the area, and makes for a very difficult turn for the school bus and emergency vehicles. Please consider parking in another area further away from the curve, to improve driving safety in this area.

Speeding: Complaints of excessive speed in the neighborhood were also discussed. The speed limit is 20 M.P.H. throughout the Oak Ridge subdivision. It is easy to exceed that speed coming down the hill on Oak Ridge Drive, or on the other streets, if not paying attention. Parents, please warn teenage drivers to obey the speed limit for the safety of playing children, pedestrians, and other drivers. If complaints of speeding continue, we will ask the Shelby County Sheriff?’s Department to step up enforcement action in our neighborhood.
