Defending Your Mineral Rights if You Don't Have a Gas Lease
In the "pages" section of the "home page" of this website is a PDF file that announces three law firms are joining together to form a litigation group to represent homeowners in Arlington & Ft. Worth who joined SEACTX.ORG and other associations but who didn't get to sign a lease with companies like Chesapeake and XTO Energy. To be represented, the homeowner has to contact the litigation group. They work on contingency which means if you win, they get a third of the triple damages or whatever is settled plus a pro-rata share of attorney fees; if you lose, it costs you nothing. Their "deal" is if they get enough homeowners signed up, the attorney fees will be small enough to make it worthwhile for homeowners. They filed their first case for an Arlington homeowner in Dallas County in August 2009. Venue may change to Tarrant County at the request of the gas companies--so I've heard.
CITY COUNCIL NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU
On Wednesday Sept 16th: Arlington's Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing at 5:30 pm in city hall on Abrams, next to the central library off of Center Street. The purpose of the hearing was to see if anyone objected to Chesapeake's request to rezone the land near the day care school on Caplin and Collins so they can drill between 8 & 20 wells. The various neighborhood associations ask homeowners to show up and make their voices heard. Homeowners showed up to express their opposition but the P&A Commission granted Chesapeake's request.
Looking For Volunteers
This website is under construction. To develop it properly, I am looking for 2 volunteers: one each from the Countryside sector and the Newport Village sector to address issues in their respective neighborhoods in this newsletter or on the home page and collaborate with me to keep the website updated.
I am also looking for volunteers who are active in the following organizations of our neighborhood (below) to regularly provide news, photos, and information on events connected to their respective organizations.
Thanks: Ron Salo, Website coordinator
