Remember, you don't have to move to live in a better neighborhood, JUST GET INVOLVED!
THE BIG EVENT
The Big Event is a community service program sponsored by the University of Oklahoma. This program?’s main objective is to support community projects. This year, over 4,000 students participated at over 130 locations. The geographical location covered Norman, and Oklahoma City neighborhoods.
The Big Event took place on Saturday, April 5, 2008. The Opening ceremony was held at the OU campus. Volunteers were dispersed to their work-sights shortly after the ceremony.
Thirty (30) volunteers arrived at Oakcliff Nazarene Church about 10:00am. The work assignments were given to the groups, and they were taken to the three Oakcliff Neighborhood entryways.
The group was enthusiastic and dedicated to supporting local communities. They did a wonderful job, and as you can see, the three neighborhood entryways look great. We still need volunteers for weekly maintenance. If we want others to support and address our concerns, we must show we care ourselves. The Church and the Oakcliff Neighborhood Association (ONA) are planning several events for the neighborhood this summer. We will need your support and participation. If you would like to help ONA/Church please call John Cole at 703-1014. If we stand by and do nothing, we are part of the problem.
We greatly appreciate the work provided by the students from OU, and we look forward to having them back next year.
Come and join us, and we all will have a great summer!
You can find a picture or two of some of the volunteers at our neighborhood website www.neighborhoodlink.com/okc/oakcliffna/.
The Oklahoma City Action Center at 297-2535 routes complaints and questions to other City departments and divisions, including Police, Code Enforcement and Zoning Enforcement. Among the code violations which can be reported to the Action Center are illegally parked cars, abandoned and inoperable cars, dead trees and tall weeds.
BECOME A MEMBER OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
If you are not a paid member, please JOIN TODAY! For just $12.00 a year ?– that?’s just a dollar a month ?– you can help your neighborhood become a better place to live.
Some of the many benefits of having an association:
Getting the ear of our local leaders who are often at our meetings.
Getting roadwork done in the addition. (Parker is the next street to be paved.)
Getting grants for gateways. (We?’ve gotten two - one for signs and one for plants.)
Getting lights put in. (We are looking for someone to help with this.)
Fight crime by working with the police?–The police are more active in Oakcliff.
Yard of the Month is helping to improve the looks of Oakcliff.
Knowing your neighbor in case you need them!
