Old 51 Civic Association

Old 51 Civic Assoc. Meeting 3-14-12.

Wednesday March 14^th was our Old 51 Civic Association meeting!   The meeting was held at the Library on New Highway 51. There was a very good turnout at the meeting. There were a few surprise guest speakers and their comments were greatly appreciated by the audience.

Michael Wright, Councilman Dist.5 spoke, as did Jaclyn Hotard Councilwoman at Large. Natalie Robottom, our Parish President spoke, as did our newly elected Sheriff, Mike Tregre.

Terrance Jones, head of recreation, Angelic Sutherland, Special Assistant to the Chief Administration Officer, and Page Braud, Public Information Officer all said a few words about what is happening in the Parish, and what will be happening in the future!

We would like to thank all of the Parish Officials who took the time to address our Organization. Their

comments were very informative and were greatly appreciated.

Our organization’s President, Michael Madere informed the group that Gus Treme’s Sons started a business behind Airline Motors, off Airline Highway. Gus Treme passed away recently; he was the owner of Airline Motors.  

A road was built behind the restaurant & a huge Clay Pit has been dug north of the restaurant & east of the Woodland Canal. The clay pit was dug to sell dirt to other Parishes. There have been numerous complaints about this business to our Organization.  

Apparently this business was started without the proper St John the Baptist Parish permits, and has been shut down for now.

The Organization will be keeping a close eye on this development!
