Old San Rafael Neighborhood Organization

Board of Directors Meeting Minutes September 24, 2002

Dec 27, 2002

In attendance: Joe Pollara, Nelson Bock, Don Gortner (for Paul Brothe)

Due to the lack of a quorum at this meeting it was decided to have a Board meeting next month instead of the neighborhood meeting. The Board meeting will be October 7, 2002 and the Neighborhood Meeting will be rescheduled to November 7, 2002.

New Action Items:

?• Joe Pollara will find meeting place for the neighborhood meeting in November. He may ask for help from Kipp Lockwood.
?• Nelson Bock will send reminders about the Board meetings to get a better attendance.

Old Action Items:

?• Joe Pollara will contact Jim Wiseman regarding the Board?’s decision to not proceed with a grant at this time.
?• Ariel Gelman will contact the City of Denver to find out about a program called Blue Print Denver and its impact on our neighborhood plan.
?• Nelson Bock and Paul Brothe will contact Historic Denver to discuss that organization?’s ability to assist the neighborhood.
?• Mary Ann McNeil will contact Norman Cable to outline some of the pros and cons of historic designation.
?• Joe Pollara will contact City Park West to obtain more information.

Resolved Action Items:

?•

Yard Sale: The yard sale was a great success. Twenty-six households participated. Maps were handed out at each location that signed up to host a sale. Proceeds of $234.00 were made on behalf of the neighborhood. In addition to donations, Sarah from 26th and Clarkson helped set up and stayed until the end. Donations were received from:
Tom and Megan
Couple on Emerson and 20th
Kipp Lockwood
Donna DeGeorge
Helen French
Nelson and Bonita Bock
And a cash donation from Ethel Greene
Flyer costs ?– both to announce the sale and the map, and the ad in the paper were donated.

Update on Historic Denver: Kathleen Brooker, President of Historic Denver, told Paul Brothe that the City is not actively pursuing new landmark neighborhoods. According to Jennifer Moulton, there are enough now, to approve more would lessen the value of the historic designation.

Kathleen participated with the Quick Wins program and feels that our neighborhood might benefit from this program. She indicated that the program is in stages. Quick Wins II just finished and Quick Wins III will begin soon. She feels that we may be able to benefit from some of the zoning discussions in Quick Wins III. She will keep us in mind and contact us when the efforts start.

Kathleen felt that it would be beneficial for us as a neighborhood to have the overall research for a historic district completed. Not that it would need to be filed, but it could be put into a book and in general would be helpful for whatever path we take in the future. She emphasized the grants that are available from the Colorado State Historical Society.

Neighborhood Church: The church at 23rd and Washington St. is in need of our assistance. It is in need of major repairs. Nelson Bock has had a conversation with Christopher Smith from United Design Studio and Historic Denver. The church is eligible for State Historical Funds to help with the emergency building repairs. They are willing to allow groups use the Hall for meetings. Nelson Bock and the Development committee (Mary Ann McNeil, Helen French, and Ariel Gelman) will meet with the church to see what assistance the Neighborhood can provide.

Items for Discussion at the Neighborhood Meeting: Introduction of the Board, Explanation of the Committees, Readouts on National Night Out and the Yard Sale

Next Board Meeting ?– October 7, 2002 6:30pm ?– Nelson Bock?’s house 2437 Downing St.
