Christmas Eve Luminarias Display

Each year the streets of Olde Savannah are framed with the warm glow of luminarias on Christmas Eve. Luminarias are little glowing paper lanterns, a holiday tradition with origins in Mexico, used to line walkways, streets and rooftops. They give such a sense of festive magic – and they couldn’t be easier to make!

The Homeowners Association furnishes the tea light candles and each homeowner furnishes the milk cartons and sand in which to place the candles.

On Christmas Eve, December 24th, at 6:30 p.m., homeowners place their lighted luminarias on every other crack on the curb in front of their house. In the event of rain, the luminarias display occurs on Christmas Day, December 25th, at 6:30 p.m.

We ask that if you will be away from home on Christmas Eve, please make arrangements with a neighbor to display the luminarias for you.
