Sports are Out of Bounds for Students Who Can’t Pay

Pickerington, which is largely in Fairfield County, is just starting to refigure its $170 participation fee, initiated this year after two levy failures.

Next year’s fee will likely be larger.

The district will have to compensate for last year’s $325,000 one-time gift from Patriot Homes, school board President Gail Oakes said.

Some sports may not make the cut if the fee rises significantly. The Pickerington board has established minimum participation levels in each sport to assure fees cover costs.
