Community Authority Proposed, Not Including Violet Township

Band Aid Number One on Victim''s Gaping Wound In the ER

The Community Authority is welcome news (or is it?). If this "development fee" district comes to fruition, it will infuse only some of the needed revenue into the schools, to build buildings ONLY. Unfortunately, it will not cover the tremendous additional financial burden on the local taxpayers of the operating costs to educate the HUGE influx of children that uncontrolled residential growth will certainly bring to our schools.

Violet Township must be included in this plan. Not to include the Township is a grave error. This is yet another example of Pickerington Style Cooperation. If the underlying reason of non inclusion of Violet Township in this Community Authority is to create a reason for Township residents to seek merger with the City of Pickerington, and assume the City debt and high taxes that come with City residency... we believe there has been a terrible miscalulation on the part of the City... a miscalculation which will ultimately hurt the schools. Even with this partial band aid to help in the future, the majority of township residents would still have very little interest in a merger with Pickerinton! If there is another reason for this non inclusion, please bring it forward for the public to digest.

One must wonder why it took so long to get this off the ground as citizens have suggested this Community Authority to the school board on several occasions in public since 1998. Apparently the board members past or present were not willing to push the idea to those who could make it happen then, and here we sit 2000 or so more students later and the school district has checked into the ER.

We'll keep building, as many as we want, if they will come.

We'll charge them a fee now, it will cover a SMALL PERCENTAGE of the construction costs required to house the children who need educating. The rest is up to you the taxpayers.
