Pickerington Invited to Form CEDA with Violet Twp on PLSD land

Letter inviting Pickerington to form a CEDA

January 23, 2001

Mr. Randall Hughes, Mayor
City of Pickerington
100 Lockville Road
Pickerington, Ohio 43147

Dear Mayor Hughes:

The Violet Township Trustees wish to thank you for your January 16, 2001 letter regarding growth issues in Pickerington and Violet Township. The Trustees are also interested in continuing discussions with the City of Pickerington and the Pickerington Local School District regarding opportunities for cooperation.

The Trustees would like to express their appreciation for the recently adopted City Ordinance which reimburses the Township for road and bridge levy revenues that would otherwise be lost due to annexation. While this is a good first step, we hope the City will embark on a bolder and more positive approach to the dynamic issue of growth in Pickerington and Violet Township.

As you are aware, the Township has moved forward to create a Cooperative Economic Development Agreement (CEDA) with the Village of Canal Winchester. The CEDA covers an area totally located within the Canal Winchester School District. No land in the Pickerington School District is located within this CEDA area.

We are requesting the City of Pickerington and Violet Township begin to negotiate a CEDA for territory in the Pickerington School District. CEDAs are a positive approach to growth that ensures cooperation on economic development. CEDAs create a willingness between a Township and a community that enables them to work together on growth issues and ends the need for hostile annexations. We believe that it is in the best interest of the area for the City of Pickerington to reach their stated goal of a business park along U.S. Route 33 through a CEDA agreement with Violet Township.

We accept your recommendation as stated in your January 16, 2001 letter which requests that representatives of the City and the Township meet to discuss CEDAs. We are available at any time to begin discussing this critical issue.

Thank you for your willingness to begin open and honest discussions on a cooperative approach to growth.

Sincerely,

Terry Dunlap, Chairman
Violet Township Trustee
