(Update: 17 Apr 2003; photos of this trip are available for viewing at www.pbase.com/essi)
The 16 volunteers to Death Valley completed the trail survey in one day! This included learning to make the trail survey measurements of distance, horizontal azimuth, and vertical slope angle.
These volunteers provided an "acid test" for a trail survey method to train inexperienced volunteers in a short time to complete trail surveys. The method works! This sets the stage for applying the training method to other projects.
Thanks to all who showed up, giving up time from their Spring break, and braving the strong winds that arose in Death Valley.
Photo Notes (clockwise from top left): Starting at the Mosaic Canyon Trailhead. Assembling the survey team. Locating a trail station mark. On a trail segment in the upper canyon.
