PCC Geography: Mr. Lee

Emergency Preparedness Opportunity

Sep 03, 2006

Note: This announcement is presented as a public service to the Pasadena Area community.

Here is a unique ?“applied geography?” and emergency preparedness opportunity. A number of recent calamities in the past year point out the critical need for emergency communications. In times of natural disaster (e.g. hurricane Katrina, catastrophic earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc.), the forces of nature alter the drastically alter the landscape. In many cases, familiar landmarks for navigation are unrecognizable. Communications, transportation, and other critical infrastructure features are disrupted or destroyed.

The Glendora Emergency Response Communications (GERC) group is pleased to announce its fourth annual Technician License Preparation Class. The class will be held on Friday October 27, 2006 (7:00 pm to 9:00 pm) and Saturday, October 28, 2006 (8:00 am to 4:30 pm). As in past years the class will be held at the Oakbank building, 120 N. Oakbank St. in Glendora, across from Citrus College.

The instructors will be Mark Hayden, KF6DSA (a recently retired, PCC professor), Keith Hanks, KG6TPU, and Roy Bishop, KG6RGD.

Cost for the class is $35.00 which includes the new Gordon West "Technician Class" Study Manual & CD, a continental breakfast and luncheon on Saturday, and snacks for breaks.

The FCC Technician License Test will be Wednesday, November 1, 2006 beginning at 6:30 pm at the same facility. A separate fee of $14.00 is charged for each test taken.

You may obtain the complete Technician License question and answer pool from this website free. Go to "Our PDF's" to find and download the file
"Technician Question Pool" which is 119 pages long. There are 393 questions in the new 2006 - 2010 pool. In our class we will go over each question in detail with demonstrations where possible.

In preparation for the class it is recommended that participants register early to get their book and practice taking sample Technician tests on www.qrz.com.
