Parkview Oaks Civic Association

Deed Restrictions vs. Munincipal Codes

Nov 04, 2006

We receive phone calls daily asking about situations in the neighborhood concerning parking, trash, noise, and landscaping. While the Civic Association is actively attempting to correct these issues, please understand that there are limits to what we can or cannot accomplish. We make every attmept to deal with issues in the neighborhood 'in house' so to speak, however some issues require outside assistance.

For example, we are aware of cars parked on neutral grounds and in front yards. We have contacted many residents and reminded them that is is a violation of deed restrictions, and they have complied with our request. Some however, have not complied. Sadly, this is a case where outside assistance is needed. Specifically, the Metro Police Department. It is a violation City ordinance to park a vehicle ANYWHERE on the grass between the street and the front door of your home. If you are blocking the sidewalk, the violation (and fine) is more severe.

The Civic Association will contact Metro Police to patrol the neighborhood in an attempt to stop illegal parking. We do this for two important reasons:
(1) It is a safety issue if the sidewalk is blocked.
(2) Vehicles parked on the lawn just plain look bad.

Help us keep the neighborhood safe, and looking neat.
