Pawtuckett Community Group

Aug. 2. 02 Newsletter(Coming Together)

Aug 13, 2002

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have taken the time to get involved in the community.

Every neighborhood,no matter where it is located, wants it to be the best. Well we can have that here in Pawtuckett, as well.

How you may ask? Well it all starts with communications.

The association was formed to bring the community together and work as a family to accomplish goals for a better quality of life.

To do that it takes everyone's cooperation. No, you do not have to go out of your way to do your part. Just watch out for each other; hence the Crime Watch Program.

If you see litter as you are driving around the neighborhood, please take a moment to pick it up.

If your neighbor needs help with mowing their lawn, offer to do it. Especially with the elderly.

Get the childern to walk their streets with adult supervision & pick up litter to get them involved as well.

These are just a few examples.

The Police are working with us because we are working with them. They know we care.

They have implemented the Beacon Light Program.

Because we have a Community Crime Watch, they can give us these lights. They fit in a regular light socket. A 60 watt bulb. If you flick the switch twice it will flash for 2 hrs.

The reason for this is that when you call 911, Police, Fire or Medic can locate your house quicker & could possibly save your life.

These lights are free. You can get one by coming to the next meeting,on Sept. 19th, at the Clubhouse 7:00 PM.

If you cannot make it to the meeting, you can call 704-398-6781 and the Community Coordinator Officer will tell you how to get one.

The Home Owners Association is working hard to try to make this neighborhood a good solid, clean, friendly, crime free place to live.

We are sure that there are folks who think we are trying to run the neighborhood. This is not true.

What we are trying to do is get people's attention that by helping each other you are in essence, helping yourself and the entire community.

You lead by example, by doing, not sitting back complaining or condeming people who are trying to do the right thing.

We know that everyone will not take part in doing all they can to help make this a better community. That is ok; but we will forge ahead.

In order to do that sometimes things are going to take place that everyone is not going to be in agreement.

That is part of learning and growing together.

For example we know that some people are upset because of the Sign Policy.

Let us explain. We are not against people having yd. sales. On the contrary. We want folks to be able to enjoy having them.

The problem is the placing of the signs.

In the past, for example, last year. On any given day you could walk the entire neighborhood and see signs that have been up for a long time.

Then once they fall off the poles they just lay on the ground until someone decides to pick up litter.

If anyone has any suggestions of a common place where these signs could be placed so that they are not on poles or in the rights of ways, please let us know.

We really do want to work with you on this issue.

An idea would be for folks having a Yard Sale to be able to put the sign out anytime after 9:00 PM on a Friday and then come to retrieve it by 1:00 PM that Saturday.

Then if signs remain we contact the person. If they do not comply then approriate action will be taken.

That would be an ideal solution. Please folks put on your thinking caps and help us figure out a place where the signs can go!!!

If we get no suggestions or responses then The Sign Polciy Stays in Effect as it is at the present time!!!!!

We honestly are working for you, whether you belive it or not.

You can e-mail us at pawtucketthoa@hotmail.com

We want all of your suggestions.

Ask yourself this question.

What will be this neighborhood, or any other neighborhood, be like in the next few years, if we do nothing, except sit back and let the litter pile up, ignore the speeders and drug dealers and etc.?

It is too easy to blame the Home Owners Assoc. or the Police when something happens, like a murder or anything major in a neighborhood.

So now is the time to say to yourself, I can do my part to keep the community a Good Place to stay for many years.

Nothing comes easy and by everyone working together we can accomplish antyhing.

That is what being a Community is all about.
Doing all we can to be the best we can be.

At times you will be laughed at or called names and maybe even Labeled as a Troublemaker, Nosey Neighbor or whatever.

That is okay, because the Bottom line is:you care and are doing what you can to make your neighborhood the Best It Can be and that my friends is called "Unity", which every neighborhood in this City or any other in the world should be working towards.

Again we want to thank all of you for believing in us and supporting us as a group.

Remember Good Communictaions Make Great Neighborhoods.

Please let us know how we can serve you better.

See you at the meeting.
