On behalf of the homeowners at Pembroke Farms, thank you John and Becky for your continued support of our Pembroke Farms neighborhood association. Some of you may not realize that without John and Becky Thompson's ground level involvement in helping to form our HOA, we would not enjoy the quality of life that we now experience. They have played key roles in this Home Owners Association (HOA) from day zero,. . .before the HOA was turned over to the homeowners from the builder three years ago.
John and Becky volunteered their beautiful home for neighborhood meetings. From these meetings we formed our neighbor-led HOA and conducted the interviews from which we hired our property manager. The first Architectural Control Committee (ACC) meetings were also held in their home. These early meetings galvanized the nucleus of ''farmers'' who would lead us in those early years.
When our neighborhood HOA was formed, John was elected to the Board with two other neighbors, Bob Burrahm and Al Hill. John is the last of the three original members. He has served as a board member, Vice-president and for the past year, has served as the President of our HOA.
As a board member John was frugal with the association's money and tenacious with subcontractors who perform work on the ''Farm''. He insisted that all subcontracted HOA work be completed in a professional 'workman-like'' manner and to contractual standards. I remember seeing John in action. John refused to accept the quality of work when the gates were painted. Based on the string of words John used, he got the contractor's attention (I think I got between the contractor and John). I have also seen John pour over the financial reports to account for every dollar of our money.
John was involved in many repairs that most of you will never know about. To save us money John frequently works around here with his own tools, on his own time, and without any thought of reimbursement.
Becky Thompson has served continually with the Architectural Control committee since its inception. She also feeds this writer on occasion (when my wife was out of town). PS she can really cook . . .I can really eat!
John and Becky are our holiday ''elves''. They decorate our esplanade (entrance area) every year around the holidays.
John and Becky live here quietly among us and their commitment to our community speaks volumes. If you ever want a humbling experience do what John and Becky did, volunteer to serve here in your own neighborhood.
PS it was even John's idea to have this web site.
Keep Farmin
