Due to City of Atlanta Budget cuts, the Gilbert House does not have a daily operations staff member on site.
However, a caretaker is still present at the facility. Inquire about hosting your next meeting at the Gilbert House.
(See contact information below).
Community meetings are still scheduled at the facility. The Perkerson Civic Association meeting is the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. [See The Community Calendar Section of the website]
The City of Atlanta's Bureau of Cultural Affairs is always accepting community input on what we would like to see at the Gilbert House. The goal is to have programs that generate revenue. Come to the PCA meetings.

Discover southern hospitality and the charm of the victorian era at the historic Gilbert House. Dating back to 1865, the house stands as remarkable evidence of the determined spirit of the Atlanta citizens who rebuilt their city following the devastation of the Civil War. Because of the contributions of the family to the development of the city, the building has been called "Atlanta's Most Historic House." The construction of the House is unique; according to one expert, there is not another house built this way in the entire state of Georgia!
It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a City of Atlanta Landmark Site. Original family furniture, photographs, and artifacts bring history to life for visitors.
Following extensive renovation in 1984, it was opened as a Cultural Arts Center under the operation of the
City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs.
The city's Art in Education program was previously run from the Gilbert House, expanding its role to become a cultural arts resource center. A small gallery often exhibited work ranging from fine art to historic memorabilia.
Groups may use the facility for:
* weddings
* meetings
* workshops
* staff training
* retreats
We hope that you will visit "Atlanta's Most Historic House" soon. For more information about any of the programs,
please call 404.817.6815.
The Gilbert House is a facility of the City of Atlanta's Bureau of Cultural Affairs, part of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
